I am Stephen Thomas, a licensed professional counselor in the state of Virginia. I noticed several years ago that a void existed in the counseling industry in Virginia, particularly in the area of telehealth. The void is counseling for Christians or the ministerial staff who face the same tough struggles or challenges. New Lifescape Counseling was born to help fill this void. I have worked in the field of mental health for 23 years now, but New Lifescape Counseling was only started in 2023. We are all saved by grace, but we all live in a broken world, which sometimes presents us with fundamental human problems that require professional help. Statistics show that 23 out of every 100 people in the United States are suffering from some mental health issue. These statistics do not preclude the church. If you are in a church service with 200 people, you’ve got approximately 46 people who are struggling, and some of them may be in the pulpit. I am a born-again Christian and also a licensed therapist, so I can take insurance. Combining these two things gives individuals and pastors a place where they can feel safe talking with someone who is a believer about depression, anxiety, relationships, grief, trauma, or any other of life’s hurts and hangups. I expanded the outreach to the entire state of Virginia through telehealth. This works very well for most people because they have a sense of privacy, and this is the perfect environment for pastors that I see, where they can close their office door or log in from home. Many clients from various denominations use this service for the same reason. If you would like to check to see if I take your insurance or pay out of pocket, click the schedule appointment button at the top of the page. That is also where my profile can be found.
